The policy analysis and advocacy industry has been consolidated since the rise of the policy sciences in the 1940s. Inevitably, those in powerful positions have begun tapping on sources of knowledge and research in order to effectively forward their companies' goals and objectives. This significant shift has emphasized the growth, proliferation, and reputation of research-based institutions, particularly, in their important contributions to the decision-making processes. Moreover, crucial pro-business reforms over the past three decades and the concurrent lateral entries of professional consultants into the Indian policy-making circles have provided think tanks the platform to present structured and specialized advice to industries and companies throughout the country. With the changing State-Industry relations in India, it can be a boon for companies to hire and utilize the expertise of research institutions and think tanks that specialize in vital areas of convergence. Think tanks can further assist companies with their high-level adaptability to the fast-changing policy landscape that existing employees in the corporate sector may not be able to efficiently adhere to.
The Forum for Global Studies, a young and rising New Delhi-based think tank seeks to focus primarily on the dynamic configurations of energy security from an Indian perspective. The FGS team consists of experts, high-profile academics, and practitioners who specialize in the geopolitics of energy, international law, comparative politics, and international political economy. We endeavour to critically uncover the evolving importance of both renewable and non-renewable energy in India’s strategic calculus and how its engagements with its energy-rich neighbours affect its policies and vice-versa. Furthermore, FGS believes that its specialization can be highly beneficial and complementary to a wide array of companies that focus on issues of energy, political-economy, geopolitics, geo-economics, and areas that transcend them. We may be a young institution, but our work continues to project our adherence to responsible and effective research. Think tanks such as ours do not get enough financial resources to maximize our potential. It is in this light that we remain open and steadfast in partnering with companies in order to achieve a positive-sum level of cooperation and coordination.
